Free salad?

Do you think salads at the Frist Gallery are too expensive? Do you wish there were healthier options during late meal? Well, the USG has a solution: the salad loyalty card.

xxxxx

After a trial run this summer, the card will go into full effect next fall. You know the drill: buy 10 salads, get the next one free.2011 class senator Derek Welski, who helped spearhead the initiative, said the goal of the program is to:

"raise awareness of healthy eating options in the Frist Gallery and give the consumer more, cheaper options that are nutritious. We have completely shied away from dictating some eating-habit or rigorous lifestyle. Instead, our policies try to make it easier, and more cost effective, to eat nutritiously."

For example, the USG’s dining and nutrition group purposely decided not to post caloric and fat content. The aim is to encourage healthy eating rather than to scare people into it or unintentionally exacerbate unhealthy food choices. The salad loyalty card is part of a 3-prong effort. In addition to the salad loyalty card, the Conscious Cuisine (CC) program -- which certifies University prepared foods as healthy -- will be expanded in Frist, and a late-meal program for CC items on Friday night will be added.
